Hyde Park is a short distance, 6 miles, from the Poughkeepsie Train Station-- for Amtrak and MetroNorth, Hudson Line trains. When you are here in Hyde Park-- you may walk, bike, call a cab, take the bus, or rent a car to get around. (Please be aware, Hyde Park is a small village with historic sites and restaurants, centrally located for day trips of Hudson Valley sightseeing, but not a mecca for in-town shopping.)
Hyde Park has sidewalks which extend from Vanderbilt Estate just a quarter mile north of the Roosevelt Inn all the way to FDR's Home & Library, a mile and a half south. (The sidewalks are not always on both sides of Route 9 and do not extend to the Culinary Institute, another mile and a half.) Route 9 is also considered the biking trail but does not have biking lanes. Bicyclists must follow traffic rules.
Taxi service is available from the surrounding areas-- Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck-- but will cost you at least $18 each way to merely get into Hyde Park.
The Loop Bus has daily service, Monday through Saturday. A single trip/one way fare is $1.75 and customers can pay when boarding the bus. Drivers do not have change, you must have the exact fare.
